Record results

Wow, another year of record A-level and GCSE results. What a suprise!!!  Okay, firstly I have no doubt that the students are bright and hard working. However, it is my opinion that these exams are getting easier.  The A-levels are a normalised system meaning that once marked, the overall grades for all students are adjusted so that the majority are in the middle, i.e. C and D and that few should get the extremes.

I have spent the last 5 ½ years teaching on similar and identical courses to the one I took in the 90's.  It is clear from this that the standards ahve dropped. I took a level 3 course, I now teach the same, or similar, material I was taught. This, however, is on a level 4/5 course. Much of the material on level 3 is similar to what we undertook in GCSE.

It is clear that the exams and course work are geting easier. As I said earlier, I am sure the students are hardworking and bright, what I think is neaded is a re-evaluation of the material that is delivered and how it is delivered in the schools This sould then raise the higer education system back up.
