Thatcham: then and now (update)

I wrote a post about Thatcham: then and now a while ago. I have now (October 2011) completed the book and it is being put togehter, the layout and artwork anyway, by the publisher ready for a July 2012 release. It has been a fantastic project and has spawned several other projects. One is to produce another book for the same publisher, The History Press.  I will give details of this new book in due course.

Nick's guide to photography

This is the first of what I hope to be an ongoing series on photography. The aim is to provide a series targeted to all, beginners and the advanced based on what I have learnt and the techneques I use.

Before we start, let me give you a short background about myself. Ignoring photography for a while, I am by training an electronics engineer and have specialized in Digital Image Processing (DIP). I have worked in various industries, manufacturing, education (a lecturer), web development, etc. I am currently a web developer, IT traininer and IT consultant.

Honoured with a Gold Civic Award

In February/March 2011 I got a letter from Thatcham Town Council saying I was to be awarded a Gold Civic Award for my work in promoting the town. Anyway, it is something I am very proud of and honoured to have been awarded. The award was presented to two people including myself on 5th April 2011 by the current Town Mayor, Lee Dillon.

Before we start styling it is a good idea to add some dummy content to the document. The thumbnail image on the left (click on it to get a larger version) shows what we would like to end up with.

Firstly let's add a title to the actual document. Change the header section to:

Film vs Digital

Before we start, I know this is a hotly debated topic and whilst there will be facts here, there are also opinions. In many cases there simply is no definitive answer. A reminder, assuming we are talking about Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras, the only difference between film and digital cameras is the method used to capture the photograph, the rest of the system, controls for the most part, lens, etc. are the same.

Domain Clearout

I have an ever growing list of domain names, some are for personal use, some for various societies I am part of, some for family members and others for clients. I have started sifting through them to see which ones are in use and which I can get rid of. Some I got for projects I had planned to do, however for vaying reasons, time, they have not happened. Other sites are ones I registered for clients who have either found another domain name or have simply failed to do anything.  Anyway, so far the list of domains I have on offer include:
