Paul Harris Award

From Heartstart Thatcham:

Thatcham Rotary Club met in June for their annual presidential handover. Various presentation were made including not one but two presentations of the prestigious Paul Harris Award. The awards were presented by outgoing president Mrs Kamal Bahia with the first being presented to Doctor Bob Tayton for all the work he has done with the Rosemary Appeal. The second was awarded to Dr Nick Young for the work he has done with Heartstart Thatcham. The team was established in May 2013 and since then they have trained over 1000 people and placed over 45 defibrillators. Nick said "I was not expecting it and to say I am speechless is an understatement."

The Heartstart Thatcham team provide free Emergency Life Support (ELS) training which includes CPR and defibrillators. They also raise funds to place defibrillators in the community. Nick was keen to highlight the fact that the success of the scheme was down to the hardworking and enthusiastic volunteers that perform all the jobs including instructing, fund raising, maintenance, etc.
