What If: Guy Fawkes

Guy Fawkes, born on 13th April 1570 in Yorkshire, is a name almost everyone in the UK will know. After his father’s death in 1579, his mother remarried and it is known the family were then against, and resisting, the authority of the Church of England. Guy Fawkes finally converted to Catholicism when in his mid teens. At this period, religion was a big part of life and Catholicism was not the religion to be in. Catholics were openly persecuted, with harsh punishments. For example, Margaret Clitherow was caught harbouring Catholics and was punished by being crushed to death.

Book Review: Drupal 6 JavaScript and jQuery

I was recently sent a review copy of "Drupal 6 JavaScript and jQuery" by Matt Butcher. Having recently started to use jQuery with Drupal it was a shame I had not discovered it earlier. Anyway, unlike the previous book I reviewed on Drupal, which did not cover the basics required to use the book, this one does.

TV/Film Review: Dark Crystal

Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal is another one of those classic films from the 1980', 1982 to be exact. This film tells the story of a Gelfling called Jen and his quest to repair the Dark Crystal.  The Dark Crystal was broke over 1,000 years ago and a prophecy tells of how a Gelfling will fix the crystal and end the rule of the evil Skeksis. The film is co-directed by Muppet creator Jim Henson and Frank Oz.

Book Review: Drupal 6 Site Blueprints

Anyone who knows me knows I love to use the Drupal Content Management System (CMS). In my opinion Drupal is relatively easy to use, although it can be daunting knowing how to configure the system to accomplish the desired working website. For example, setting up a blog with Drupal is easy, but how do you add a gallery? What if you would like to pull RSS feeds from another source or even run an e-commerce website?

Useful: Theme Forest

For those of you who know me I am an excellent web developer, can work well with XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, etc. However, when it comes to designing a layout, especially anything with artistic touches ir when I have little time, I use other sources. One of these is ThemeForest. A fantastic website with templates for sale that can be used in your site(s). There are Drupal, WordPress and Joomla themes as well as pure PSD or even just standard (X)HTML and CSS.
